Book Review: Obsidian

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

Holy Freaking Awesomeness Batman! Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout was WAY better than I anticipated. Excuse me for a second while I step away to wipe the drool from my mouth. Sure I've read a lot of raving reviews about it, but I still didn't expect myself to enjoy Obsidian quite as much as I did!  Where should I even begin this review? How about with the obvious....Daemon.

Sure he's super arrogant, sarcastic, and a big tool, but I dare any female reader not to fall in love with him! His devotion to his family is adorable and he gets big "bonus points" from me for doing anything he can to protect them. I've been terrified of aliens ever since I saw E.T. as a little kid, but if every alien looked like Daemon I'm sure that fear would be forever cured in seconds! The chemistry between him and Katy was undeniable, and I loved their constant bickering and fighting!

Book Bloggers (or those familiar with the blogging world), will especially get a kick out of Obsidian as the main female character is a book blogger herself! References to things like Waiting on Wednesday and IMM are sure to make book bloggers feel at home. I also couldn't help but notice more than a few references in Obsidian to Jus Accardo's book Touch (another amazing read!), which made me smile and feel like I was part of a big inside joke. Long story short, Katy's obsession with books (which mirrors my own) quickly won her over in my opinion!

The plot of Obsidian was also really good! While it will come to readers as no big surprise that Daemon is an alien (I mean, it's given away right in the synopsis!), there are more then enough twists and turns to keep readers more then entertained. Jennifer L. Armentrout definitely knows how to weave a good story and I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what will happen to Daemon, Katy, and Dee next! Thankfully I don't have that much longer to wait, as the next instalment, Onyx, is set to hit store shelves in August! Thank goodness!

All in all Obsidian was a delicious read and I highly recommend it to fans of YA romance and science fiction! In my opinion it was definitely worth the ten bucks that I spent on my copy! If you haven't had a chance to read it yet then get off your butt and go pick up a copy now!

Gosh this book sounds so amazing. I want to read it so badly, but I can't seem to find it in my bookstore. Great review though- :)

Wow, great review Natalie! I'd heard of this one before, but am not the biggest fan of aliens and sci-fi, but after that GLOWING review, I'm going to check it out!

Argh! Now I don't know what to do. I downloaded the first few chapters to see what I thought of this one and wasn't impressed. It felt so amaturish. And the guy seemed like every freaking guy in YA paranormal to me. But now you're saying it's good. Oh, what to do?! Do you think if I didn't like those first chapters I should read the rest?

I keep hearing good a bad things about this one. I suppose it's all a matter of opinion isn't it? I might do as Jenny did and download the first few chapters of this one. If Daemon hooks me in I shall be lost :)

Ooh, this sounds good! There is not enough good YA sci-fi out there, IMO. Looking forward to reading your review of the next installment.

Jenny: If you read the first few chapters and didn't like it then you probably will feel that way about the entire book :P It is a bit amaturish at times and Daemon is a typical YA boy, but I couldn't help but be sucked into it!

Lan: I didn't even know that the first few chapters were available online, but that is definitely a good idea before buying the book!

I think it's so much fun that the main character is a book blogger. I'm sure that in itself is probably getting a lot of bloggers to read it that wouldn't otherwise.

Hi My name is 'CHERRY SHANE' just want to share my experience with the world on how i got my husband back and saved my marriage... I was married for 7 years with 2 kids we lived happily until things started getting ugly, a point where he filed for divorce... I tried my best to make her change his mind & stay with me cause i loved him so much didn't want to loose him but everything just didn't work out... he moved out of the house and still went ahead to file for divorce... I pleaded and tried everything but still nothing worked. The breakthrough came when someone introduced me to this wonderful, great spell caster who eventually helped me out... I have never been a fan of things like this but just decided to try reluctantly cause I was desperate and left with no choice... He did special prayers and cast a return back spell on him... Within 7 days he called me and was sorry for all the emotional trauma he had cost me, moved back to the house and we continue to live happily, the kids are happy too and we are expecting our third child. I have introduced him to a lot of couples with problems across the world and they have had good news... Just thought I should share my experience cause I strongly believe someone out there need's it... You can email him via website or call him with +2348161850195..
